5 Installation Tips for a Cleaner Peel-and-Stick Finish
Share
Peel-and-stick materials are designed to make surface updates more approachable, but preparation still matters. A clean base and a careful installation process can make a noticeable difference.
1. Start with a clean, dry surface
Remove dust, grease, loose paint, and surface residue before applying the product. The surface should be completely dry before installation.
2. Check the surface condition
Smooth and stable surfaces are generally easier to work with. Avoid applying products over damp areas, loose paint, heavy texture, or damaged surfaces unless the product instructions specifically allow it.
3. Plan the layout first
Place the material loosely before removing the backing. Check the direction, pattern repeat, corners, edges, and seams before fixing the first piece.
4. Peel gradually
Remove the backing a little at a time. Smooth the material from the center toward the edges to help reduce air pockets and uneven pressure.
5. Trim carefully
Use a sharp cutting tool and a straight edge for cleaner lines. Work slowly around corners, outlets, fixtures, and other detailed areas.
Important reminder
Installation results can vary depending on the surface condition, temperature, humidity, material, and application method. Always read the instructions on the individual product page before beginning.
